Prof Harper is a philosophically inclined, technophile sociologist who has worked in start-ups, in corporate research and academic life (The Appliance Studio, Xerox EuroParc, the University of Surrey, Microsoft Research amongst other places) who explores and tries to invent new ways of being human in the age of computing – this isn’t just about HCI, but also about the metaphors (and myths) we live by as well as the technologies we build. Colleagues and friends include some wonderfully imaginative designers, HCI specialists, sociologists and philosophers who make my world (unbelievably) fun. One I have even married: Abi Sellen.
